Location Exploration

The world of Second Life is huge. There are so many places that you can visit. There are many things that you can do and many people to visit with from all over the world. The possibilities are endless.

I first visited the island named Pondex. Pondex seems like a place to go if you just want to relax. There are many beaches and palm trees in the area. I thought that it was neat that there were mountains with snow on them since it looks like a tropical island. In addition to the beaches there is also a marina where you can dock your boats if you have any. My first impression was that someone was trying to create a tropical island. Pondex has a large building that looks like a pavilion for which to put advertisements. There is an art exhibit that has many beautiful pictures, many of which are of beaches, islands, and oceans. I think the objective of the sim was just a place to get away from the normal world and go somewhere unique.

Chakryn Forest looks like a forest in a weird dream. There is a statue of a knight in the middle of the forest. He probably did something was brave or heroic to get such an honor to be made into a statue. There is also a little booth where you can sit in a tub of blood and it says “click here to die as Marat”. I do not know who Marat is but I plan on finding out after I saw this. In one of the corners of the forest there is a pond surrounded by a beautiful rock formation. Next to that there is a light blue tree that has spirally and twisted branches. Something I thought was neat was the falling leaves all around. I did not see it at first when I was exploring, but when I was flying around I found a tree house with a couple of couches and a painting.

When I first arrived in Themiskyra I saw a landing strip for what looked like UFOs. When I flew around a little bit more I noticed that there were many different buildings for many different eras. There were areas that I could not cross into unless I was a member of some club or organization. There was a building that had the patterns of an Indian teepee and you could buy all kinds of beds. I thing I thought was interesting was the underwater highway. I took a picture of myself by a couple of UFO. I did this for a couple of reasons. For one, I love space and the possibility of there being life out there fascinates me. Another reason is that I love flying. I think that the reason Themiskyra was created is to possibly get a feeling of what different societies there could be such as space and underwater.

My choice from the featured locations was Inspire Space Park. When I first got to Inspire Space Park I walked around and I saw a group of people doing tai-chi. I thought this was a little strange, so I had to get my picture taken there. I wouldn’t have imagined someone wanting to do tai-chi in space, but that’s what Second Life is for. You can do things that you wouldn’t normally do in real life. I also noticed that, for some reason, I was unable to fly around. Well let me rephrase that. You could glide. When you tried to fly you would just fall in the flying position. I talked with some of the people that were in the Space Park. I found out that this place is for relaxation and meditation. There were many exotic looking bean bags and rest areas inside.

When I first arrived at Info Island I noticed that there were many buildings to use for reference on just about anything. The trees lit up at night. They were beautiful. The next places that I went to JoeC joined me. There was also a dance club that I went to. The name of it was Jazz Cat. It is for ballroom dancing with a member of the opposite sex. Although you can dance, no one was there to dance with when I went. I believe that this sim was created for entertainment. Another neat building that was there was a castle and inside it had a bunch of different illusions. I think that its purpose was to entertain. I found another dance club named Club UWS that looked pretty interesting. On the bottom floor there were couches and a bar. On the upper floor there was a dance floor to do a variety of different dances. JoeC and I shredded up the dance floor with some sweet moves. No one else was there when we were. The last place that JoeC and I visited was the science center. They had fascinating pictures of cells and atoms, a model insect, and a model of a group of red blood cells. It also gave a link to all science related places in SL. I think that the purpose of the place was to be a reference. One event that was going on soon on Info Island was the Winter Wonderland Dance on January 30. I’m thinking about attending that.
